TRUTH

(AMonth Later…)

Prophet had been acting brand new since he’d been talking to Rhavyn. He was still pissed at Maceo for the shit he pulled with Meona. I can’t say that I blamed him. He was avoiding Maceo, but it wasn’t good for business.

“Where’s Prophet?” Maceo pulled up on me and asked. I was parked up at the gas station getting ready to go to my mother’s house for Sunday dinner. Maceo was the last person I expected to see.

“I haven’t spoken to him all day. I’m not sure where he is,” I lied.

“Get in,” Maceo demanded.

“I’m fine in my own car. If I hear from him, I’ll let you know,” I stated, even though I knew I wouldn’t. If Prophet wasn’t fuckin’ with him, I wasn’t about to try to make him.

“I wasn’t asking you; I was telling you. Get in before I air this bitch out,” he threatened me.

“Fuck!” I yelled, punching my steering wheel. Prophet unknowingly pulled me into some bullshit. “Aight. Here I come,” I told Maceo and let the window up on my truck.

Prophet was not about to get away with pulling me into his shit, so I dialed his number. The first time, the phone rang three times and went to voicemail. The second time, it went straight to voicemail. He was either declining my call or he’d turned his phone off which wasn’t like him at all. Something wasn’t right. Fearing something had happened, I dialed his number once more.

“Damn, why you keep calling me?” Prophet finally answered with an attitude.

“The fuck you mean? Your ass been ignoring Maceo and his ass done pulled up on me. That shit not cool.”

“Pulled up on you for what?”

“I’m not sure. I was sitting at the gas station and the nigga rolled up on me. He’s telling me to get in the car with him.”

“Let the window down and ask him what he wants.”

“I can’t. He’ll know I’m on the phone with you and I told him that I hadn’t heard from you.”

“Truth, you knew he was going to know that was a lie. We’re brothers. When do we ever go without talking to each other?”

“How the hell would he know that? We’re grown. We both have our own shit going on. We don’t have to talk to each other every day like we’re dating or something.”

“Put him on the phone,” Prophet advised me. His tone suddenly became real serious. Knowing how he got down, that made me nervous.

“I got it. Forget I even called you,” I told him and hung the phone up without giving him the chance to respond.

Prophet called my phone back-to-back, but I ignored each call. Stepping out of my truck, I left my phone on the seat. I didn’t want Prophet to keep calling me while I was talking to Maceo. Something told me things would end up going left.

A funny feeling consumed me out of nowhere. Checking my surroundings, I took my time going over to the black sedan Maceo was inside of.
